Sets out the minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of mechanical and airconditioning systems for fire and smoke control in multi-compartment buildings. Five specific methods of smoke control are defined and the appropriate requirements specified for each. This Standard does not include requirements for smoke control systems utilizing exhaust from above the hot layer. The Standard does not include requirements for maintenance of smoke control systems.
Scope
This Standard sets out the minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of mechanical ventilation and airconditioning systems for fire and smoke control in multi-compartment buildings. This Standard also includes provisions that are applicable to single compartment buildings. Five specific methods of smoke control are defined and the appropriate requirements specified for each.
The Standard does not include requirements for smoke control systems utilizing exhaust from above the hot layer. Requirements for the maintenance of smoke control systems are also not included.
NOTE: AS 1851.6 outlines management procedures for maintaining the fire and smoke control features of air-handling systems.
