La présente Norme internationale spécifie une méthode de détermination des effets létaux et sublétaux de sédiments contaminés sur le crustacé ostracode Heterocypris incongruens après 6 jours d'exposition.
La méthode est applicable non seulement aux sédiments d'eau douce mais également, par extension, aux déchets solides et aux sols après ajout d'eau (non contaminée).
La méthode peut également être appliquée aux produits chimiques ou aux préparations qui sont introduits dans un sédiment de référence.
La présente Norme internationale n'est pas applicable aux essais sur les sédiments estuariens ou marins.
