This Standard specifies the method of tensile test for butt welded joints of metallic materials.

This Standard is applicable to all forms of product with butt welded joints made by any welding process (including friction welding, friction stir welding, diffusion welding, etc.).

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows :

ISO 4136 : 2012 Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials – Transverse tensile test (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT (identican, MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
