The<br \/>\ndetermination of those last two quantities is explained. The method<br \/>\nis valid for tension or compression and provides a convenient<br \/>\nmethod for accounting for the behaviour of a material beyond its<br \/>\nelastic range, for example in buckling calculations. The method<br \/>\nallows simple calculation of tangent and secant modulus and<br \/>\nPoisson&#039;s ratio but calculation of stress at a given strain or at a<br \/>\nratio of stress to tangent modulus is less easy.
