This Standard details definitions, methods of measurement, and
\nminimum performance characteristics for access terminals. This
\nStandard shares the purpose of [1] by ensuring that an access
\nterminal can obtain service in any system that meets the
\ncompatibility requirements of [1].<\/p>\n
Compatibility, as used in connection with this Standard and [1],
\nis understood to mean that any access terminal is able to open data
\nconnections in any HRPD system. Conversely, all HRPD systems are
\nable to open connections with any access terminal.<\/p>\n
Test methods are recommended in this document; however, methods
\nother than those recommended may suffice for the same purpose.<\/p>\n
The performance metrics in this Standard require an access
\nterminal to provide a single antenna connector for testing. Access
\nterminals having multiple antenna, such as for receive diversity,
\nshall provide a single antenna connector for testing. If an access
\nterminal has more than one antenna connector, only one connector
\nshall be used for testing. Additional requirements specifically for
\nmultiple antenna configurations, i.e. receive diversity, are for
\nfuture study.<\/p>\n
Requirements Terminology<\/p>\n
"Shall" and "shall not" identify requirements to be followed
\nstrictly to conform to this document and from which no deviation is
\npermitted. "Should" and "should not" indicate that one of several
\npossibilities is recommended as particularly suitable, without
\nmentioning or excluding others, that a certain course of action is
\npreferred but not necessarily required, or that (in the negative
\nform) a certain possibility or course of action is discouraged but
\nnot prohibited. "May" and "need not" indicate a course of action
\npermissible within the limits of the document. "Can" and "cannot"
\nare used for statements of possibility and capability, whether
