The information sheet should be used in conjunction with<br \/>\nANSI\/AGMA 1010&#8211;E95 in which the gear tooth failure modes are<br \/>\ndefined. Similar definitions can also be found in ISO 10825. They<br \/>\nare described in detail to help investigators understand failures<br \/>\nand investigate remedies.<\/p>\n<p>The information presented in this document applies to spur and<br \/>\nhelical gears. However, with some exceptions the information also<br \/>\napplies to bevel, worm and hypoid gears. Discussion of material<br \/>\nproperties is primarily restricted to steel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>System investigations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gear system dynamic problems are beyond the scope of this<br \/>\ninformation sheet. However, it is important to recognize that many<br \/>\ngear failures are influenced by problems with the gear system, such<br \/>\nas high loads caused by vibration. When investigating gear<br \/>\nfailures, it is necessary to consider that the cause may stem from<br \/>\na problem with the system rather than the gears.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysis by specialists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is not the intent of this information sheet to discuss the<br \/>\ndetails of disciplines such as dynamics, material science,<br \/>\ncorrosion or tribology.
